Get Ready for a Tropical Retreat. Offering sugary white sand beaches and sparkling blue waters, the island of St. Pete Beach is home to both TradeWinds Island Resorts - the location of the 2006 IGES conference This seven-mile-long barrier island is home to spectacular sites that include five miles of white sandy beach. St. Petersburg beach is a tourist mecca filled with unusual gift shops, evenings of entertainment and watersports galore. Located in the Pinellas County peninsula on Florida's central west coast, just 30 minutes from Tampa, the island of St. Pete Beach is bordered on the east by Boca Ciega Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway and on the west by the Gulf of Mexico. St. Pete Beach provides a true island ambiance with quick access to everything the Tampa Bay area offers. St. Pete Beach was recently presented with the Blue Wave Award - America's first national environmental beach certification program. The Blue Wave Campaign judges beaches for water quality, beach and intertidal conditions, safety, services, habitat conservation, public information/education and erosion management. The area also has two of the top beaches in the U.S - making it the only destination in the United States with two beaches in the top 10 and on the Blue Wave list. Rated as the2 nature beach in the country, the pristine Fort De Soto Park is just minutes from the TradeWinds.
