A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Christopher Bartlett in the Battelle Center for Mathematical Medicine to perform genetic analysis of familial language impairments and autism. Our human genetics laboratory is conducting linkage and association analysis of several family datasets to localize susceptibility alleles for language impairments with and without autism. Our expertise is in the defining and application of novel clinical and research phenotypes to dissect the underlying genetic architecture using modern statistical genetic methods developed in house.
Applicants with expertise in statistical genetics are particularly encouraged to apply though experience in statistics or biostatistics with an emphasis on family designs or related data structures will be considered. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in team-based basic quantitative and/or computational research as well as ongoing clinical collaborative research. The successful candidate will confer regularly with the principal investigator but must incorporate self-directed research, excellent technical, presentation, and communication skills as essential parts of the job. Must have Ph.D. degree in relevant field of science from an accredited college and good communication skills. Coursework in neuroscience, psychology, linguistics, statistics, and relevant research methods is desirable. Experience with elementary databases is also beneficial.
The Research Institute is affiliated with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the fifth largest free standing children’s hospital in the United States. The Research Institute is housed in a modern 385,000 square foot, dedicated research facility with outstanding shared facilities and core laboratories. External funding in 2008 exceeded 49.4 million dollars. The Research Institute is equipped with state-of-the-art transgenic, embryonic stem cell, DNA sequencing, informatics, morphology, microarray, and viral vector core facilities.
